RE: Hensley Hitch

I have ordered a ProPride - waiting on delivery. The way I see it is why not spend the extra money on what is the weakest link in the towing setup. Yes, an equalizer hitch is a good hitch but most of us probably have at least $50k to $60k rolling down the road, so putting 5% of that into a hitch does not seem extravagant. Basically tow with what you are comfortable with, I'm just more comfortable with the best hitch I can buy.

RE: Electric awning VS hand operated?

I have an electric also....I can say that I really like it, easy to put up at night, so when the storm blows in at 2am you don't have it on your roof like all the people around me did.

RE: Hensley vs ProPride

Well I went and ordered me a ProPride..... I'll let ya'll know how the install turns out.
To answer bluwtr49's question.... The current setup I have is a cheapo dealer hitch with one "friction" control bar. In all honesty, I could probably have lived with it by myself, but I have two precious pieces of (8 and 4 year old DS) cargo that I'm willing to spend the extra cash to safeguard.

RE: Hensley vs ProPride

Thanks for the replies - I believe I'm going to get a ProPride, just as soon as I can pry my wallet apart..... $2500 is a lot of flippen money.

Hensley vs ProPride

Is the Propride 3P hitch really the same as the Hensley with added improvements? I'm just really nervous about dropping $2500+ on a hitch and want to make sure I get the best one out there.

RE: Purchace price haggling?

Thats the main reason we ended up with a Jayco.... the KZ dealer was not willing to deal at all ... did the 1 month call back, still no deal - the moral of this story is do not get attached to any one brand as there are several that are of the same quality. (The Jayco ended up being $500 less than I could get from RV Direct when delivery was added in).

RE: Small trailer question - Do you take turns?

Its a known fact that whomever is on the inside will have to go to the bathroom as soon as the person on the outside falls asleep. At least its that way for us.

RE: Up size from 150 to 2500 TV ?

I am thinking about the GM2500 HD Too. Fits in the Garage. What kind of gas consumption do you get with yours when pulling the TT. Is yours the 6.0 Ltr. engine?
I get 8 mpg when towing - 12 avg. when not.

RE: Power Awning Tie it Down or Not?

I plan on tying mine down.....also plan on not retracting it while tied down. What I'm worried about is those sudden gusts you can get while at the coast (at least the Texas coast) that come from nowhere. If its a sustained wind then I will leave it rolled up.

RE: Going "Green" while camping?

Green is the new yuppie......makes me sick......screw being green, drill our oil and let's get back to the real world.....
Amen to that....while being environmentaly sensative is a good thing, this "going green" has turned into a flippen religion.

RE: Anyone selling because of gas prices?

I just bought mine, saved until I could pay cash - that was a tough 4 years. So it costs me an extra $1000 to go play, it worth it to me for the deposits in the old family memory bank. Even if it costs $8 a gallon we will still go somewhere - just a lot closer to home.

RE: Does it matter?

Again Thanks for your service.... without you, none of us would be talking about RV's. As far a retreads go, if they get you from point A to point B then that's the tire for you. You might want to look for some used tires, as there are a lot of people that get new ones every 3 yrs are so, whether they need to or not. Been there on the fixed budget (while going to college - ate many a rabbit from on the grounds - pellet guns are wonderful). Good luck in your future adventures.

RE: Stabilizer jacks - how tight?

My new Jayco has scissor style stabilizer jacks. Without much effort I can have the tongue jack not touching the ground. How snug does the stabilizer jacks need to be? My previous TT had a different style jacks and I just tightened them down good. It would never raise the camper up like these scissor style.
Before I snug the stabilizer jacks, I put a tire-chalk between the tires on BOTH sides of the trailer, then I place a plastic leveler on the ground where the foot of the stabilizer will touch the ground. Camping World sells both chalks and levelers but a bit pricey! I made my own chalks from a design idea from a fellow RVer on RV.net. for under $30 and a square block from a 2x10 will do the same trick for levelers. Go to RV.net and just type in the word "chalk".
We do not "chalk" our tires, we chock them.
My 4yr old will "chalk" your tires if you give him half a minute.

RE: Does anyone here not have a tub surround?

same here but last one was a tub, this one a shower. the old one had what looked like regular walls but it was caulked everywhere. this one looks like seams and corners are over lapped and don't see any caulk anywhere. been wondering if I should caulk or not-doesn't appear to leak anywhere
I asked that question to the tech when I picked mine up... he said not to caulk as everything overlaps and it all needs to breathe to prevent mold.

RE: If Price Didn't Matter, What Trailer Would You Buy?

If I won the lotto the first thing I would do is hire somebody whose job it is to find me, wherever I am, and send me money. As far as RV goes - it would be a top of the line 5th wheel. In the 25-29 foot range, I guess an Airstream would do for a hunting trailer.
